AutoGate Swing and Slide Gate Openers
AutoGate manufactures a wide range of standard and customized swing and slide gate operators designed to work with various gate styles and manufacturers throughout the USA and Canada. Barrier Stop Defense is a certified AutoGate installer, providing professional installation and support for automated gate systems.
SWING GATES
Swing gates typically operate using two main types of automation systems. The first option uses pad-mounted operators with articulated arms, while the second uses post or pillar-mounted linear actuators for controlled gate movement.
Swing gates can be installed with different hinge designs depending on gate size and weight. Heavier gates require stronger hinge systems to support smooth operation and long-term performance. Most swing gates are mounted on 4″ or 6″ square posts secured in concrete or supported by heavy-duty stone and brick columns.
All automated swing gates must be designed and installed according to UL 325 and ASTM F2200 standards for proper safety, operation, and installation requirements. Failure to follow these guidelines may create serious risks for pedestrians and can result in liability for property owners, installers, and service personnel.
SLIDE GATES
There are three primary types of slide gate systems commonly used for access control applications:
CANTILEVER ROLLER
A cantilever slide gate uses a complete gate panel with an extended tail section, generally around half the length of the opening width. For example, a 20′ slide gate typically includes a 10′ tail section. The gate is supported by (4) rollers and moves horizontally using roller trucks attached to support posts, eliminating the need for a ground track.
OVERHEAD SLIDE
Overhead slide gates use a raised support beam with an enclosed track system. The gate panel, often constructed from lightweight aluminum, hangs from the track and moves horizontally to open and close.
One advantage of this design is that it requires less side clearance because no counterbalance section is needed. However, the overhead beam creates a clearance restriction, typically positioned at approximately 16 ft. high.
V-TRACK (Rolling)
V-Track slide gates are commonly used in warmer climates where snow and ice conditions are limited. These gates operate on an inverted angle track mounted to the concrete surface, with V-style wheels attached beneath the gate panel for smooth movement.
This design requires only a small extension area for operator installation and is a practical choice for many standard access points.
Additional slide gate configurations are available for specialized and high-security applications, with many systems customized according to project requirements.
All slide gates must comply with UL 325 and ASTM F2200 standards for safe installation and operation. Proper compliance helps protect pedestrians and reduces potential risks for owners, installers, and maintenance teams.
